Calming of the Storm

(Unfortunately most of this window is covered by the balcony) This window portrays Jesus calming a storm (Matthew 8:18-27). After much teaching and the performing of many miracles thousands of people began to follow Jesus everywhere He went. At one point, Jesus command that a boat be prepared so that He and His disciples could sail away from the crowds to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. After sailing a good distance away from the shore, one of the violent storms, for which that sea is known, blew up and threaten to sink the boat. Jesus’ disciples were terrified and called out to Jesus to do something. Jesus, knowing that He had not come to earth to die in a boating accident, rebuked His disciples for their lack of faith and then rebuked the wind and waves. Because of Jesus’ divine authority over all the earth, the wind and waves immediately stopped and the sea became perfectly calm. Through this divine showing of power Jesus displayed to His disciples, and all who would later read this account, that He is indeed Lord of heaven and earth!
