Calling the Children

This window portrays Jesus calling little children to Himself (Matthew 19:13-15). One day while Jesus was teaching the crowds which followed him, some of his followers began bringing children to Jesus so that he might bless them. Children have always been children, and certainly those being brought to Jesus were no different. Jesus’ disciples felt that the noise and rambunctious nature of the children was inappropriate for the presence of God’s Son, but Jesus disagreed and called off His disciples. Instead, Jesus commanded that the children to come to Him, unhindered, so that He might bless them all. In this passage we see the tender love of Jesus toward children and His admonition that all people, great or small, must follow Jesus with a child-like nature. This means that all who follow Jesus must do so with tenderness, joy, and wonder in a similar way to children. We cannot accept Jesus with qualifications and in skepticism, but we must accept Him as He has revealed himself in the Bible.
